This year I’ve been obsessing over beautifully illustrated collective books that offer a glimpse into languages and cultures around the world. While we can’t always jet set to another country, we can broaden our horizons by opening up a book. Check out what’s on our wishlist this year.

This one is a bit of an outlier as it’s not a collective, however I’ve been anticipating this book all year! I’m a huge fan of Oliver Jeffers’ works and have been salivating over his sneak peeks (on Instagram) into this book that just came out this month. This is a non-fiction book that he wrote for his son. I am really excited to read it this holiday with my two boys. - Hello Atlas by Ben Handicott
This is a quick peek into what kids around the world do every day and a few phrases in their native language. I LOVE that this collection contains both well-known and lesser known indigenous languages. - Hello World: A Celebration of Language and Culture by Jonathan Litton;
What a wonderful interactive lift-the-flap book that shows young kids how to say “hello” in over 150 languages. While this book is similar to the previous one, I can’t help but also what it in my collection! - This is How we Do It: One day in the Lives of Seven Kids from around the World by Matt Lamothe
I love this real look into what it’s like to live as a child in different parts of the world. The author communicated with real families to get an authentic picture of a day in their lives. Get a glimpse into what makes us all the same and what makes us different. - A Year Full of Stories: 52 classic stories from all around the world by Angela McAllister
For a wonderful cultural collection, this book presents 52 stories of myths, fairy tales and legends from around the world. One story for every week, these stories coincide with the time of the year and holidays around the world. Curl up with your kids this holiday and dive in.
